Trout Creek Campground is a family-friendly camping destination located along the South Santiam River, 20 miles east of Sweet Home, Oregon. The campground was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s and boasts a mix of 24 campsites, including riverfront sites tucked under the shade of Douglas-fir and Hemlock trees, as well as a day use shelter with a fireplace.
The campground features five pull-through RV parking loops and a mix of standard parking spurs, with drinking water from a hand pump well. Vault toilets are available for use and firewood can be purchased from nearby vendors or occasionally from Linn County Parks staff. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as wading and fishing in the river, hiking on the 2.8-mile Trout Creek Trail and the short Walton Ranch Interpretive Trail, and accessing the Menagerie Wilderness from the Trout Creek Trail.
In addition to the recreational opportunities available at the campground, the area also offers a chance to explore the Rooster Rock Trail, a 3.3-mile one-way trail that leads to Rooster Rock, a stone pinnacle in the Menagerie Wilderness popular among rock climbers. The nearby Santiam Wagon Road is also a historic trail used to transport livestock across the Cascade Mountains.
Overall, Trout Creek Campground offers a peaceful, scenic setting with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. Advanced reservations are recommended during the busier summer months.
