North Santiam Campground Description

North Santiam State Recreation Area is a state run park with 9 walk in only campsites, a picnic area, weather shelter and large fields with river access. The recreation area is located near Salem, Oregon and is fairly popular during the busier summer months.

The campground at North Santiam State Recreation Area is a walk in only campground meaning you CANNOT pull your car into a spot near your campsite. You must carry all of your camping gear a short distance to your actual campsite. The distance from the parking area to the campsites varies with the furthest distance being roughly 100 – 150 yards.

The campsites are well spread out and have decent privacy however people at the park for day use only will likely be walking by your campsite frequently. There are flushing toilets here, running water, garbage services, 2 horseshoe pits and large fields to play in.

The greatest draw to this area is the river access. There is an excellent swimming hole and nearby picnic tables making this a great place for a summertime BBQ. The downsides to this campground are large crowds and lack of privacy in the campsites.
