Horseshoe Lake Campground Description

Horseshoe Lake Campground is located in the Mt. Hood National Forest near Olallie Lake at the foot of the Mt. Jefferson in Oregon.  The campground is small and remote with difficult 4×4 access roads leading to it from two different points making it a secluded and fairly unused campground.  In 2020 the Lion’s Head Fire came through and burnt nearly everything around this campground making it unforested and nearly un-usable.  As of 2024, only a couple of the campsites are accessible due to downed trees and burnt debris.  There is little shade and msoquites can be brutal in this area depending on the time of year you visit.

The campground offers very little in terms of amenities – no potable water, no toilets, and in some cases no picnic tables.  However, the campsites rest perfectly adjacent to Horsehoe Lake making it a fantastic place to spend the night if you want to have a lake front spot all to yourself.  Nearby Olallie Lake has much more to offer in terms of amenities and if you find yourself at Horseshoe Lake it is likely because Olallie Lake was at capacity.
