Sandstone Fire Results in Clackamas River Closures

A wildfire sparked by a lightning strike has resulted in significant closures across the Clackamas River Ranger District. The fire, located on the southern slopes of Thunder Mountain, has resulted in the shutdown of several trails, roads, and popular outdoor spots in the area.

For those planning to visit, it’s crucial to be aware of the current restrictions. The closures, which started on August 7, 2024, include all National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within the affected zone. These measures are in place to protect both the public and emergency responders as they work to contain the fire.

Popular Closures include: Bagby Hot Springs, Kingfisher Campground and Pegleg Falls.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has also issued evacuation orders for certain areas, and those impacted should refer to the official evacuation zones map. Stay updated on the latest developments by checking the Sandstone Fire pages on Inciweb and Facebook.
