This place sucks! The recreation.gov makes it seem light and airy and FLAT. It’s not! It’s dark damp and extremely steeply sloped. We couldn’t find anywhere to put either the tent or trailer because site #10 was so sloped. We left and found accommodation elsewhere but couldn’t get out $70 back because we didn’t cancel 48 hrs in advance.
A rip off.
So glad this campground made the list, I think it’s lovely. It might not be great for campers or RV’s because the road is a bit narrow and tight, but I think it’s great for tent camping. You can find spots right on the creek if you’re lucky. There is a bit of hiking right from the campground, but you’re basically in the midst of hiking heaven if you’re willing to drive a bit. There are tons of thing to do in the area if you want a fun day trip like rock climbing or heading up to Timberline. Tollgate is also a historical location named for the tollgate that operated during the Oregon Trail days. A short hike from the campground takes you to a spot where you can see where the tollgate stood.
