Oregon State Parks Closures

Starting this September, several Oregon State Parks will see closures or partial closures as major construction projects get underway. These projects, which include everything from upgrading infrastructure to adding new facilities, are part of a significant investment to imrpove the overall camping experience across the state.

One of the key projects kicking off is at Nehalem Bay State Park, set to close entirely on November 1, 2024, and remain closed through June 30, 2025. This closure includes the campground and all day-use areas, as crews work to install new water and electrical lines, add restroom and shower buildings, improve accessibility at nine campsites, and make traffic-calming changes to the park’s entry road.

Next up, Silver Falls State Park will close its campground on September 16, 2024, though cabins 1-10 will remain available. The closure, expected to last until June 30, 2025, will allow for the replacement of the B-Loop restroom and repaving of the A Loop. Fortunately, all trails, trailheads, day-use areas, and the iconic South Falls Lodge will stay open during this time. Additional GO Bond-funded work will also begin next year, including the construction of a new campground and visitor center.

Also on September 16, 2024, Bullards Beach will close its campground (with the exception of the horse camp) for crucial sewer line and lift station upgrades. The work, which aims to meet increasing demand and prevent service interruptions, will close all campsites, overnight restroom facilities, yurts, the meeting hall, and the dump station until March 17, 2025. The day-use area, however, will remain accessible.

Milo McIver State Park will see a similar closure starting September 16, 2024, with the campground, group camps, and hiker/biker area shutting down until March 2025. The project focuses on refurbishing a restroom building and repaving parts of the park, though day-use areas will still be open for visitors.

In late fall to early winter 2024, Fort Stevens will begin closing campground loops L, M, N, O, and C, as well as cabins, yurts, and the South Lake restroom for extensive upgrades. The improvements, which include wastewater and electrical upgrades, paving, water system enhancements, and a new restroom building, are expected to continue through 2025. The historic Guardhouse is also slated for restoration, with work including roof repairs, exterior cleaning, and basic utility upgrades. Other campsites and day-use areas at Fort Stevens will remain open during this period.

Looking ahead to 2025, additional closures are planned, including at Clyde Holliday, Collier, and Cape Lookout, where campgrounds and day-use areas will undergo similar revitalization efforts. You can find more information on construction advisories on the Oregon State Parks notices webpage.
