Clackamas Lake Campground Description

Clackamas Lake Campground is located in the Mount Hood National Forest near the more popular Timothy Lake Recreation area.  Clackamas Lake Campground has 46 campsites and is ideal for mainly car/tent camping though there are some sites that are large enough to accommodate and RV or camper.  Though there is indication of a lake nearby, you wouldn’t know it unless you venture down one of the trails that lead to its shores.  Overall this is a good campground but is less than ideal when compared to nearby Timothy Lake.

    1. If there isn’t wood for sale in the Clackamas Lake campground you could check at the nearby Timothy Lake Campgrounds.

  1. I’ve heard there isn’t much water in the lake right now. Can anyone verify? We were hoping to swim and paddleboard.

    1. There generally isn’t much water in Clackamas Lake regardless of the time of year. It is more of swampy meadow with a small “lake” area. For paddleboarding and swimming your best bet is to camp at Timothy Lake or use the day-use area there.

  2. The lake is actually a large spring. The water is freezing and the sediments are very soft. It is perfect for viewing, but treacherous for swimming. I visit to study its ecology. It is truly gorgeous.
